Physical Education and School Sport has a high profile at Baxenden St John’s and we encourage all pupils to recognise the benefit of being active and participating in competitive sport. In recognition of our commitment to sport we have been awarded the Gold Mark for 2013/14, 2015/15, 2015/16, 2016/17 and received the Platinum Award for 2017/18.
We also place high emphasis on achieving and improving our own “Personal Best” across a range of skills.
The PE curriculum covers;
- Games –skills and tactics from invasion games, striking and fielding games and net and wall games.
- Swimming (KS2)
- Outdoor and Adventurous Education
Within this subject area there will be opportunities to compete at a personal level (improving own PB) at intra level (between class members) and at an inter level (against other local schools) Although we pride ourselves on always performing to the best of our ability and winning medals is our ultimate aim we also use these opportunities to develop the School Games Values of: Honesty, Teamwork, Respect, Passion, Determination and Self Respect.
In addition to curriculum PE there are many opportunities for pupils to become leaders of sport. In school we have; Sports Captains, Competition Leaders and Bronze Ambassadors for Sport.
We work closely with the Hyndburn and Ribble Valley Schools Sports Partnership providing opportunities for pupils to participate in PE and sports outside of school.
We offer a range of after school sports clubs which are open to all abilities.
