Year 5 – Spring 2 2023
Year 5 have had another brilliant half-term.
In English, we have been using the novel Hugo Cabret as a stimulus. The children innovated their own version before creating their own novel based on an invention within the Trafford Centre. The children used a fantastic range of vocabulary and are applying their grammar skills of parenthesis brilliantly!
We have also really enjoyed our Science unit on Earth and Space. We have learnt lots about the rotation of the Earth, phases of the moon and also focused on Tim Peake as our inspirational scientist. We even finished the term off by trying some freeze-dried astronaut food!
We were lucky to have a visit from the Life Education Van where we were thrilled at Steven’s return with Harold the Giraffe. We looked at how to keep our body and minds healthy and active as we learnt how great it was to be ourselves.
To support Comic Relief, we took part in fundraising by dressing in bright colours. Throughout the day, we looked at the importance (especially in the current economic climate) of charity work and the Christian Value of ‘generosity’. It was a ‘fun-filled’ day but we also learnt a lot from the real-life stories of people who are supported by the charity.
We had another fantastic money-wise workshop this half term. The children now have a strong understanding of incomes and outgoings and what is an essential to survive. We also looked at ways to avoid being in debt by accurate budgeting.
Have a lovely Easter Year 5 and I can’t wait to see you for another busy term as we enter Summer 1!
