Our school helps us to walk with Jesus, to be the best that we can be. Through God’s love and guidance, we create an ethos of shared endeavour, friendship and co-operation to help us flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually.
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
Welcome to Year 4! This is an exciting and important year as the children continue to grow in confidence, develop their independence and build on all of the vital skills they developed during Year 3.
Moving upstairs in the school building marks an exciting new stage in the children’s primary school journey. Throughout the year, we encourage pupils to take greater responsibility for their learning, organisation and behaviour, while supporting them to become increasingly independent and resilient learners.
Over the course of the year, we have a range of exciting and interesting topics for the children to explore, including:
A key focus in Year 4 is developing fluency and confidence with times tables. Times tables are an important part of the year, with pupils taking part in the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June. We encourage children to practise regularly so that they become quick, accurate and confident with their multiplication and division facts. These skills are an important foundation for many areas of mathematics.
Alongside their academic development, we place great importance on helping children develop the skills and attitudes they need to succeed. We encourage every child to be kind, be honest, be respectful and be the best that you can be. These values underpin our relationships, learning and behaviour throughout the year.
Year 4 is a year of building foundations, developing independence and preparing children for the next stage of their education. We encourage the children to take on new challenges, make mistakes and learn from them, and develop the confidence to tackle new experiences with a positive attitude.
It is a pleasure to be part of your child’s education, and we hope to make it a happy, positive and engaging experience. All we ask is that everyone tries their best.
We hope you enjoy a glimpse into our everyday life in Year 4. Please check back regularly for the latest updates, photographs and examples of the exciting learning taking place in our classroom.
