Our school helps us to walk with Jesus, to be the best that we can be. Through God’s love and guidance, we create an ethos of shared endeavour, friendship and co-operation to help us flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually.

Welcome to Year 6 at Baxenden St John’s!
Year 6 is an exciting and important year in our children’s primary school journey. It is a year in which we encourage every child to grow in confidence, independence and resilience, while continuing to develop a genuine enthusiasm for learning.
As the oldest pupils in school, our Year 6 children have an important role to play within the Baxenden St John’s family. We encourage them to lead by example, demonstrate kindness and respect, support younger pupils and take pride in the responsibilities and opportunities that come with being in Year 6.
Throughout the year, we aim to provide a curriculum that is challenging, engaging and memorable. Children are encouraged to aim high, embrace new experiences, persevere when things become difficult and recognise just how much they are capable of achieving.
Of course, Year 6 includes preparation for the KS2 SATs, and we work hard to ensure that every child feels confident and well prepared. However, Year 6 is about so much more than test results. We value creativity, curiosity, teamwork, friendship, courage, kindness and the individual talents that make every member of our class unique.
There are also many special moments to look forward to throughout the year, from taking on additional responsibilities within school to our residential experience and the celebrations that mark the end of the children’s time at Baxenden St John’s.
Above all, we want our children to leave Year 6 feeling proud of everything they have achieved and ready to take their next steps into secondary school with confidence.
In Year 6, we aim high, work hard, support one another and strive to be the very best that we can be.
