Autumn 1- 2023
My new Year 4’s have made a wonderful start to the academic year. They have risen to the challenges in order to flourish and be the best that they can be. See below what we have been up to.
This half term, our in class Worship Leaders are Chloe and Harriet. Our prayer leaders are Declan and Farrah.

RE- Our unit, ‘What values do you think are important?’ has provided lots of time for reflection and both emotional and spiritual growth whilst we’ve considered which Christian Values we look for in ourselves and others. Through following David’s story, we have been able to see examples in the bible that show how God wants us to treat one another. We also spoke about our aspirations for our future and who inspires us.
We took a trip to God’s Garden to read our own Psalms. See your child’s Seesaw account for the videos.

Art- Year 4 have loved their first art topic of the year- Aboriginal dot art. To acquire the skills, we have had to investigate existing art works and show great perseverance when sketching and developing our final piece (keep your eyes peeled for these being uploaded). The topic has even inspired some children to produce their own dot art at homes. We were even generously gifted lizard pictures from Ashton, which provided further opportunity to practise our skills! Thank you!
On transition day last year, I asked all children how they wanted to flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually. Both Lily and Molly (pics below) wanted to improve their artwork. I’d sure you would agree, they have produced beautiful work.

Bethany Children Visit- We were thankful to be given the opportunity to meet Christians from another part of the world. We learnt how that even though the faith is shared, the contrast between our lives and those of the Bethany children is drastic. Year 4 were especially shocked by the fact that within the culture, women do all the work (that and the fact that they have limited food options and no snacks).

Culture and Diversity Week 2023- Take a look at the pictures of what we have been up to this week.
Islam- After a whole school worship led by Muslim faith leader, Imran, we were visited in class to learn all about the Mosque, it’s features and the rituals of prayer.

Judaism- We explored the Jewish festival of light- Hanukkah. After looking at the origin story, we worked in groups to create role plays pretending to be children witnessing the miracle of the menorah staying lit after the war ended. We performed these down at God’s Garden. We then produced a written outcome with a diary entry. Two special mentions- Firstly, to two of our God Squad members, Oliver Ri and Harry, who generously and enthusiastically gave up their own time to create pic collages all about Hanukkah. Secondly, to Orestes, who acted as camera man 🙂

Sikhism- We were thrilled to be once again joined by Prags to this year learn all about Sikhism. We then got to participate in Bollywood dancing, which we found out would be part of Sikh Harvest and wedding celebrations. Check out Seesaw for a video of children enjoying the experience.
