Computing
We love Computing at Baxenden St John's!
Our school helps us to walk with Jesus, to be the best that we can be. Through God’s love and guidance, we create an ethos of shared endeavour, friendship and co-operation to help us flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually.

Computing Intent at Baxenden St John’s
The computing curriculum at Baxenden St John’s teaches children to be logical, to reason, solve problems and to communicate their ideas through a variety of media platforms as contributors and participants in a digital world. Our pupils explore abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation to become responsible, competent, confident and creative users of technology. In doing so, we believe that our pupils can use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world, drawing upon skills from mathematics, science and design technology.
Moreover, in an ever-increasing technological age, we want our pupils to be robust in their approach of being able to create and evaluate online content, whilst understanding the pressures and responsibility of navigating the online world in a safe manner. ‘Online Safety’ is the foundation on which we build the rest of our Computing knowledge and curriculum.
NCCE (National Centre of Computing Education)
At Baxenden St John’s, we follow the government-backed NCCE scheme of work across the Computing curriculum. This covers areas including ‘Computer Systems and Networks’, ‘Creating Media’, ‘Data and Information’ and ‘Programming’. Alongside this, we start every half-term exploring different aspects of Online Safety and use ‘Rising Stars’ as a resource to support learning.

Aims of Computing
Baxenden Primary School aims to ensure that all our pupils:
- Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation
- Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience writing computer programs in order to solve such problems
- Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
- Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology
- Safer Internet Day 2025We joined schools nationwide to celebrate this year’s Safer Internet Day. For morning worship, our wonderful digital leaders led the assembly talking about this year’s…
