Compassion

The meaning of Compassion (noun) is: “a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or bad luck of others and a wish to help them. The quality of showing compassion means loving our neighbour as we love ourselves and is rooted in the character and nature of God. For example, “I showed compassion for that person who was upset”. For a child, compassion might look like giving a hug, making a card, or saying something kind to help a friend or family member who is feeling sad or upset.
Thought for the half term: Someone showing compassion is happy to think about others before themselves – to care about others, treat them with kindness and feel a strong desire to help people in need. Compassion is empathy in action. How can we show compassion? By searching Google, there are lots of resources to find more about how you can help your child show compassion and use the language in a meaningful way. Look at the sheet at the bottom of the page and talk about compassion with your children.
